The anchor locker is next on my list.....

I have also noticed what I consider excess condensation from the A/C on mattress in the aft cabin....we have had 95 degree weather in the southern u.s. lately and i do believe this is normal, however, i suspect i have a a/c condensate drain issue as the sump box has remained dry....the condensation is probably overflowing the pan.....????? however the water continues to pool under the sump box....not much though...I also need to check the head sink for leaks....

I don't think it is a rain water issue as I am moored undercover and on a lift....I may have a little water traveling from the anchor locker down the keel after a day or two on the hook....

I do like the deck plate i mounted on the sump platform.....i can inspect and suck out any water that accumulates.....so far the only time i see water is after running the a/c.......

I will fix this fall after it cools down.....tired of sweating....i promised myself that i will enjoy the boat for the rest of the season and handle the "problems" in a few months......i just hope that nothing "urgent" presents til then....

Water in boat...
We had wet carpet in the front cabin port side next to fridge on 258.
Removed fridge and felt under the fridge shelf and found the drain holes in the ribs blocked with sawdust and plastic hose caps and other general garbage. Boat was obviousely not cleaned properly during manufacture.

Water under shower sump corroded cable plugs and sockets. Cause was loose strainer bowl on pressure pump inlet running through stringer drain hole.

Soundproofing under engine hatch is not sealed at edges causing it to act as a big 'sponge' when raining which runs into engine room when lifted.

How did you cut the hole for the deck plate? I assume a hole saw but do you recall what size?

I removed one of the screws holding the sump pump in my v278 and inserted a coat hanger wire through the screw hole. It hit another level below the sump platform(assume the keel) but seems to be only about an inch or so clearance between the two levels. Now I'm a little nervous about drilling through the sump platform. Anyone do this on a V278 as it appears the clearance might be different (less) than the V258?

Interesting about the junk left behind during manufacture. I've found all kinds of fiberglass cutouts etc. left behind during my water search. Sort of surprised me that this would not get cleaned up as part of Q&A while building the boat. I also notice the soundproofing sponge issue. I wonder if it could be caulked along the outer edges to prevent it being absorbed but maybe this wouldn't be a good idea.

Your right about the hole saw....I believe it was a 2"....but I can't be sure....I just matched up the flange to the appropriate sized bit....

As far as the clearance from bottom of sump platform to keel....I can't answer that....Perhaps FW Customer Service..??? I think I only had an inch or two as well on my 258.....just took it slow.....that way I would not punch through and hit the fiberglass underneath.....

Did anybody find their limber holes? As far as I can tell, the fuel tank sits in front of where I should be looking. I'm retired construction: I was also disappointed to find debris left in the boat. Doesn't speak well about craftmanship.

I'm fairly certain I found mine. I have one directly behind and to starboard of the engine and another about 1 foot ahead of the stern on the port side (just in front of the hot water heater). I have a v278 though so most likely this will be different on the v258. I used to find water sitting in front of the hot water heater and felt it was a leak (perhaps from the AC strainer that is also right there) but now with David's explanation of the limber holes I'm sure it's water that has travelled back from the front of the boat and come up through these holes.

This is exactly what I did as well......thanks for posting the video.....

I used a stainless deck plate....wish i had found the plastic one and saved a few dollars.....

It works well....I can stick my shop vac hose through the opening and vacuum out any water that finds it's way under the sump. I too believe it comes from the anchor locker. I have sealed it with caulk and am hoping for the best.....

also, I have got into the habit of leaving the deck plate open all the time just to give any water that finds its way under the sump a little extra potential to evaporate.

I spoke with Four Winns yesterday and although they said my forward bilge pump was as low as it could go...after watching that video it makes me wonder if I don't have a half inch or so of space between what it sits on and the keel.
