It comes with "Fully automatic built in battery protection system" At 1049.00, I will stay with my AGM. My 5 AGMs bearly cost me that much.

80aH for $1050? That's horrible. I can run down to walmart and pick up a 80aH deep cycle for $100

I wish I knew what specs to go for. It would sure make it easier! But I have found nothing in the Four Winns or Volvo manual and don't currently have a trustworthy mechanic.

Y'all have pretty much confirmed that a Group 27 or 29 dual-purpose ordinary battery is likely my best bet. The fancier ones are more than twice the price without more than twice the warranty, and I'm not heading offshore or otherwise very far from help if I need it.

Because I shudder at the thought of going to Walmart this time of year, I'm leaning toward this one from Autozone:

That looks very cool, and it's probably worth the price for some applications, but likely not most boats.

If their claims are correct, you might save some money by only needing 1/2 the battery for a house system, since deep cycle lead batteries aren't supposed to be drawn down more than 50%, and they claim it's OK to take theirs to 100%. Instead of 4 $250 AGM batteries you'd need 2 of these $1,000 LiFe units, so then they'd only need to last 3 times as long to be worth it! :lol:

On the 50% draw down. Odessy AGM can go "up to 400 cycles at 80% depth of discharge"

There have been a couple of times were I ran the dead, recharged and came right back to life.

Or on a correct deep cycle setup, you use 6v batteries. Two 240aH 6v's in series creates 240aH of 12v power, run em dead you're not going to hurt em. Cost is $160 bucks total and has the power of three $1000 LiFe batteries.

Not very economical yet, but when you consider the size and footprint, 80ah is impressive. Nascar has been running Li for a couple years now, with probably less battery issues then with previous LAWC or AGM. Less weight means its much easier to balance the car. For smaller boats with high current draw stereos, Li's will be golden. Just need to get the price down.

Battery for 3 hours on a race track is way different than battery for 6 hours running a trolling motor or house.

It was just a simple statement about lithium ion batteries being used in an off-road mobile 12V application, with good results. But hay, for those that like me that dont know anything about boats or race cars, please explain how they are different

I mean, hour into the race, the alternator belt flies of. Now, that battery has to support brake rotor cooling fans, electronic ignition, ECM and injectors, electric fuel pump, etc, etc. Yep, nothing like house loads on a boat. :lol:

My apologies to the OP for bringing up Lithium batteries and creating turmoil.
It was not intended for people to buy them just to bring up new technology and the possibility of something for the future when the prices come down.
Back to the original question, RichA it looks like you made a decision which is exactly what I did last year. Got replacements at Autozone for $100. They are a pretty good deal and identical to the Interstates that came out.

My AGM started the engine right away. Didn't show that it was up to snuff on the gauges but worked anyway. On the water for first time this year.
