OMG! You think Ground fault interupter will prevent the arcing between the brushes and the commutator?
In many drills, you can see the arcing through the air vents (or in your case...fuel fume vents). Ground fault system only works
after a short to ground to prevent dangerous shock to user. Arcing at the brushes is not a ground fault.
Do not use an electric drill around fuel fumes! End of story.
