Post subject:  245 vista hot water heater test...?

Hey folks,

I want to test my hot water heater, and am thinking a pressure test would do it. Any ideas on what the pressure needs to be, both in the water supply section and the water jacket section (going to hook her up to the engine to heat the water when away from dock).

I repowered an '88 245 vista a few yers ago and am slowly bringing the rest of her up to grade. She was beat up, but only had 200 hours on her. I took out the heater at the time, it seems good, but never know!

thanks.

Al

On the water side, city water would be about 20 to 25psi. I have seen boater use air for this. They use a compressor, pump 5 or 6psi into it and wait over night. In the morning, take a reading. It is easier to drain the air out, do the fix, than water. On the jacket side, on the heater alone, you could do the same thing. If it is hooked up to the engine, other than just normal usage, I am not sure how or if there is a test for it.

I'd pressure test to the fresh water pump pressure. Around 35 psi if I remember correctly.

Thanks folks. It is out of the boat, so testing should be easy. I just want to make sure the fresh water system and the engine water system are still seperate. Testing to the water pump is a good idea...didn't think of that! It is a 40 psi pump, soo will test to that.

Thanks again!
