Post subject:  260 Horizon 8.1 Volvo Penta DP
Hello Everyone,
Greetings from the Sacramento Delta! I have just purchased a 2006 260 Horizon (new) and after my first outing it is a sweet ride. The 8.1 has plenty of power and the through hull exhaust option rocks. I am looking forward to a long season of great boating. My last boat was a Searay 280 DA T-5.0 so I am looking forward to the economy of a single engine (if you can say an 8.1 is economical) :D . Would like to hear from some other 240 or 260 owners especially if you are in Northern California. My Grandkids are at a perfect age to go tubing and maybe even learn to wakeboard. For myself I wanted a boat that would do well in the delta as some areas can be quite congested but still be easy to trailer and tow so I can explore many of the big lakes in Northern California.

Mark, that's a GREAT looking boat - congratulations!

If you don't mind a suggestion - you might consider moving your picture down into your signature, or reducing the size down if you leave it as part of your avatar... it's causing posting text to get all scrunched up over on the right side :) . Again, just a suggestion. I love your boat!

I've got essentially the same boat. Just different color and no arch. Love it. But I am seriously jealous of that arch. However, I'm not sure I care for the forward facing bimini. How does that open up? does it all fit under the arch? Can you use a camper top with it?

I thought about adding one aftermarket but one of my favorite features is the camper top for overnighting.

I'd love to see pictures of your set up all deployed.

I keep my bimini on, but this pic was taken when it was fresh out of storage.

Cincy, I think the front/back bimini position is optional for you to choose on any given day. I don't know if it has been that way in years past or is a new feature this year. I have a 220 that will allow you to put the bimini forward or backward when in the boot.

Mark, does yours do that too?

Admin can change that in the configuration page of admin tools. (I use phpbb2 on lots of other freebe boards)... avatar size admin

I think it's great that Admin allows us to have avatars of different sizes - most boards don't - but that puts the job on us to make sure they're reasonable.

Cincy - Do you have any pics of you camper canvas? Is there any privacy when it is up or is it all clear plastic? Also, how does the back fit by the swim platform? Same as cockpit cover?

Mark - Nice boat, she must go good with the 8.1. Post some more pics.

Thanks Mike, I think I have that fiqured out now. The Bimini actually drops down to deploy under the arch and then you just raise it back up and it fits nicely under the arch. When you tow utilizing the arch the Bimini will close half way and you have a half boot that keeps it from flapping in the wind. I am not sure about the camper canvas, if it is an extension of the Bimini then it should fit fine. The 8.1 is awesome, Searay actually had an 8.1 option in the 280DA I had prior to this boat and a good friend of mine said the weight to power ratio was actually a better fit for that boat. I think the twins made the boat much easier to manuver though. My wife really misses the overnight option we had with the 280 so I might investigate the camper canvas. Cincy, I will post a few pictures with the top up so you can see how it looks. Thanks for the warm welcome and advice. The shakedown cruise produced some minor fix it's so she is at the shop getting ready for the long weekend. Any suggestions how many hours I should have on the engine before I wakeboard or tube? I have 8.9 hours on it now which were mostly hours cruising down the Sacramento River (I stayed away from the whales though).

I must stand corrected, and retract my previous statement about the optional bimini position. I just learned, up picking mine up, that the bimini's only closed position is the forward position tucked just under the ski arch. Just thought I would pass that along. It was fun to be wrong, though, because it meant I got my hands on my new rig! :D

Here's a pic of my camper top up. After getting it adjusted, I love it. It provides relative privacy. It had an extender piece that attaches to the rear of the bimini and has it own poles so the rear piece hangs out over the sun pad and connects with the shock cords.

Post subject:  Bimini Top
I just took a picture with the Bimini top open and you can see the clearance between the wake tower and the top. You also would have to close to 1/2 position to tow from the tower. Left my camera at work but I will post over the weekend. Boat is in for the 20 hour service and I can only hope the next twenty hours is as fun as the first!
