I am picking up my 08 H200SS next week, I have been asked if I want too purchase the extra 2 year warranty on my 5.0L mpi engine, the dealer wants $1199 for the extended warranty, and for the police traceable window etching they want $199, this is cdn funds, is this the norm???????? Is this worthwhile? :?

As far as the window etchings, don't waste your money. If your boat is stolen, you have plenty of numbers around your boat and engine to identify the boat. If someone steals the boat, and scratches off all the serial numbers, they would probably sandblast off the etching also. (spend the money on a good lock for the boat trailer).

I would scratch the window etching... that's a waste of money -- that's a tank of gas! Plus - you have insurance and it's really unlikely that if your boat is stolen that you will find your boat based on the glass etches.

as for 1199 for a 2 year extension.... I paid 750 for my Volvo 2+4 (6 years total) when I purchased my boat... maybe the dealer put in a couple bucks, but it doesn't sound like that is a very good deal.

Any other merc owners with experience on the topic?

As far as the window etchings go ,I think it is better to prevent the theft in the first place. Now having said that ,you cant stop a determined thief, but if you make it hard for them in the first place ,they are more likely to think .Hey this ones too hard, lets try the one down the street. My suggestion is get a chunky hardened steel chain and lock the trailer to a immovable object or use wheel clamps or a tow ball lock or something along those lines.Myself I made a jig that goes through both wheels from 2 inch water pipe making the trailer immovable when in place. It is also a great visual deterant.
Hope this helps

I'm no Merc expert (or anything else expert), but for two years of coverage your dealer ought to be able to get that for you for $100 or $200 at the most IMO. $1200 is what Volvo charges full retail for 4 years of coverage, and nobody in their right mind pays more than half that - usually much less, if they make it part of the purchase deal. That isn't an option in your case, but your dealer ought to help you out with this out of good will, if they're a decent dealer.

Make the dealer throw in the extended warranty.
