Post subject:  Newbie boater looking to buy first boat

Hey I'm looking at buying my first boat ever
The one I'm looking at is a 2007 four winns h180 with the v6 4.3l

Does anybody have any hints or tips to save me the hassle of buying a boat and later regretting buying that boat?

Any tips on what to look for when buying will be greatly appreciated
Thanks again
Nuno

Welcome to the forum! What type water will you be boating in? Lakes, rivers, ocean? What do you want the boat for? Wakeboarding/skiing, cruising, family? The H180 is a good boat, especially for new owners. Its only drawback is that it is on the small side, especially if you plan on having peeps onboard.

Your only regret might be the dreaded 2-foot-itus, as in, "I wish I would have got the H200".

My recommendation would be to buy the biggest bow rider you can afford with the most hp you can get in it. Your kids will love it and the space in the boat will get small quickly. Good luck in your search.

Yah my budget right now is 20$k n this one I looked at is at a dealer right now n they r doing a full service on the trailer and the boat n they r throwing in all the safety gear ,ropes , bumpers tower with racks n top bow cover n cock pit cover everything I need all I have to do is buy it n hit the water n yes it will be mostly fresh water with maybe the odd trip (like once a season ) in the ocean

Now my new question is the price on that boat with taxes all in on the back of my truck on the way to the lake is 20,180$ is that a good deal ?

oh also in all the stuff they are doing n adding they are also refinishing the gel coat on it

20k for a 2007 H180?

WAYYYYYY TOO EXPENSIVE! The correct price for that boat is around $14,000. With smart shopping you can easily pick up a 2007ish H180 for around 10-12k.

Took 2 seconds to find this one, and it has a swim platform. Search around my friend

Why would they need to refinish the gelcoat?
Polish: Yes
Refinish: ?????

You could pick up an H200, H220, or H230/240 for that price range if you are willing to go a little older. You certainly have the tow vehicle for it. Not saying that you need to go bigger, but a lot of people wish they had bigger boats.

Bigger =
. More Room
. Smoother Ride
. More people
. More storage space
. Mostly the same maintenance cost
But also...
. More gas
. More gas for tow vehicle
. A little harder to launch
. More trailer maintenance (2 axle vs 1 axle)

Holly crap thanks ric the first one is exactly the same as what I looked at but it does not have the tower which the one at the dealer will they r putting the fold down style on it

And the gel coat needs to get polished cause the previous owner had it break away from his private dock in Victoria and there is a few dings and scratches on it and they just rebuilt the drive arm and prop as well

Thanks for the quick replies guys this forum is giving me lots of info and you guys are as well

Whatever boat that dealer wants to sell you, tell them to get lost. They're taking you on a ride called getting ripped off.

This is the best deal going. In brand new condition. Awesome color scheme. Good engine. Swim platform.

Go give them 16 and take it home.
