The transoms are still encapsulated wood ( or at least they still were when my 2004 model year Sundowner was built in 2003).

Interestingly enough when I had the hull replaced on my 2007 H220 the original boat bulit in August of '06 had a foam core transom and the replacement built in July '09 had a wood core transom. Also when drilling the stringers for the motor mounts we found there was wood in them also. All fibreglass construction seems to be a bit loose with FW!

I sure thought there was still wood in both the stringers and transom at least through '05, and probably still.

From what I was told FW is really trying to move away from all of that... who knows until you open it up on an older boat.

Maybe the transom thing had to do with issues they have experienced with vibration or loss of compression on the transom plate over time and they felt reliability was better with wood. The stringers may be reinforced at the motor mounts for strength. Just some thoughts.

The stringers at the motor mounts on my boat are thicker than elsewhere, I expect there is a wooden block in there; hopefully they sealed the 1/2" holes they drilled so the wood is not exposed.

Brandon at Winnisquam did a great job on the install and was very careful in sealing all the motor mount bracket holes with 4200 on final assembly.

My head is spinning
We have finally narrowed it down to what we want,1999 to about 2004
18 foot Horizon with no bench in back
Or 19 foot Horizon with bench or side seats in back
4.3 will do
5.0 litre will be better hoping to hold out for fuel injection.
We have really liked a few boats that had everything we are looking for, but so far none with F/i
so I am still holding on and looking
A few nice ones at dealers , but they are asking too much , and don't move too much on price?
So if any one knows of a nice low hour boat on west coast please let us know
Jeff & Kelly

Newer Four Winns are no longer wood from everything I've learned along the way.

Can't speak to the stringers, but I found a thin layer of wood (very thin) in the hull when drilling the hole for my PerfectPass system speedometer paddlewheel. So, as late as 2007 there is still SOME wood in there.
