Hi Lou
I will try to send you a pic of the back of the boat. Yes you are right about the OMC/Volvo thing. What makes it worse is volvo penta supersedes part numbers continually. I am sure you are aware that happening. it is a real pain and not sure why they do it?

The biggest problem with VP parts is that some things you might need are discontinued so your only good option is good used parts which of course I have had to do with my OMC. Also they will say that parts like trim rams and steering actuators are not rebuildable but actually they are… you can use the kit you posted or the one sold by OMC/BRP which manages OMC parts. There are more parts available for Mercruiser and a lot of aftermarket for them as well. But for now you should be able to get this problem solved without too much difficulty….
also, just thought of this...
That pic you posted of the updated Volvo repair kit, make sure it covers all years of the SX series, because the first few years, the trim rams were identical to the OMC Cobra ones like mine and that is what you have. I looked at it closely and it looks different than the OMC/BRP kit which definitely works for the trim cylinders we have...
early style, has the trim line running to the rear of the cylinder under that plastic cover
late style had the trim line integrated into the body of the trim cylinder
I'm not sure what year they changed, but yours definitely appear to be the early style. So just check on that, to make sure those seals will work on yours. I posted a link to the ones I used.

PS the reason why this part issue is confusing is that the people selling the one you posted list the OEM Volvo part numbers of the cylinders they fit. You have to know what you have because they don’t break it down by year of production. Whereas in the OMC catalogs I have found they do even so there is only one cylinder design for all the OMC Cobras. I find Volvos on line catalogs maddening to use.

]Hi Lou
Sorry, but I became quite sick with covid, as did my wife. This will have to wait until spring, as fall is here and not too warm all of a sudden. Nor do I have the energy. The covid really set me back and still is making me feel lethargic. It was/is not fun.
Thanks for your help, and when I do it in spring I will let you know.
Ron :)

Sorry you both got Covid, it's a shame that it is still out there, after all this time. And you never know how it will hit you. Anyway if you wind up doing yours like I did mine leaving the cyls on the transom mount, it isn't that bad of a job, you don't have to disturb any of the trim line fittings, and the cyls are held very tightly to make it easier to get that end cap to move.
