Dash came today. VERY nice. I can't wait to get my boat out of storage and put it in. Does anyone have the link to the instructions on the depth finder? I'm sure it is an easy unit to use.

JOHN, MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THE NUTS ON THE BACK OF YOUR DASH. I had a bunch that were barely finger tight and one that was 95% off.

I believe these are the instructions. http://faria-instruments.com/site_manuals/IS0091F.pdf.

I hadn't thought about it before, but did we loose our Water Temp. guage with the new panel?

Thanks, I may have to pull it back out and check mine.

Yep. No water temp guage any more. Fortunately, I have one on my Lowrance.

Check the depth gauge, the new ones FW uses has water temp on it - not sure if the VDO replacements do or not.

Here's the gauge FW uses in the '08 and '09 model years:

Unfortunately, it appears that the replacement panel uses this Depth Sounder

rather than the Dual Temperature Depth Sounder in your picture.

Hey John,

Did you get a chance to test your gauges yet? I think I'm going to have to take the plunge and I want to be sure this is the right fix. I'm tired of false info. I changed out my speedometer paddle wheel and it now works. Unfortunately, it measures about half speed. At 3000 rpm speedo says I'm doing 12-13 mph. Depth finder cuts stops working, and trim indicator won't work. Uhhhhhg!

Thanks,
Andy

Man, I'm tired of this stupid VDO cluster in my 1998 180 Sunsport. Does anyone know the part number of the replacement cluster for my model. I can't seem to find the info anywhere on the internet regarding specifics of the replacement for my model.

Does it match the pix of the dash I bought? If not, post a pix of your dash and lets see if we can help you out.

I will hve to post some next weekend. My boat is in storage right now. I'm pulling back home next weekend to start installing/getting it ready for summer. I'll snap some pix then.

Thanks,

Jason

Well I got my new dash installed yesterday. Powered it up and nothing happened. No beeps, no engine turn over, nothing. First reaction: *%$*! Second reaction: $$$$ Third reaction: look down and see the emergency cut-off lanyard lying on the ground. Hook up lanyard, beeps and live gauges. Woohoo! Took it out for a ride and all seemed to work well except for the trim, which I half expected. I'll change out that sending unit this fall when I pull the outdrive for service.

The speedometer seemed stiff though and wasn't reacting with accel/decel like I would expect. When I came to a stop I had to tap the speedo to get it back down from 20 to 0. Is this normal for new gauges?

BTW, after talking to AmericaRocks, it appears our original dashes were installed differently. Mine had #6 screws ever 6" around the perimeter. His did not. Had I wanted to remove it the "right" way, I should have taken off the entire console. But, with a crow bar, a little TLC and patience, I was able to get it out in about 20 minutes.

I hated to spend the money on the new dash but all in all, I'm glad I did. I would hate to have trusted a critical gauge only to find out it was faulty.

I appreciate all the discussion and everyone’s input on the VDO issue. As I mentioned previously, I decided to go ahead and purchase the 025-3119 on eBay. I traveled up to the lake on Saturday and the removal and install went very well. One issue was that I had to cutout the dash for the new panel to fit (see picture below). Fortunately, I had a hacksaw and coping saw in the tool box from working on my son’s pinewood derby car. Even with that, the whole process took less than 1 hour while being very slow and careful and I do not consider myself to very “handy”. I am very pleased with the results. Looking forward to taking it out for a full test drive so I can test all of the gauges.

Sorry, I missed your question at first.

To remove the cluster, there are two screws at the top (you can see two small holes near the top of the cluster).

The "plastic pin" on the right end slides out and the dash came out pretty easy for me (I had the break it loose just a little).

You can unplug the connection either before or after removing it.

I had to then cut to dash as in the picture to make room for the new guages, plug it in, install with the two screws.

If you have any questions, let me know.
