Well All,

My 1985 195 Horizon finally hit the water today. After the launch she started right up. We idled out and I gave her a bit of throttle and we took off. I was actually very impressed with a couple of things. 1) the fact that a 170 HP - 4 cylinder moved this boat as well as it did and 2) the way the hull handled the little chop that we found on the lake!

All in all, I was very happy with the performance. I would have liked to have power steering as the manual steering required some man-handling at lower speeds. But oh well, that is for a future boat.

The interior turned out really nice and I will have to post some pics of that. The pedestals for the Overtons seats were too low and the crappy plastic, so I built my own that look "4 winns box stock" and even has the storage below with the vinyl snap covers.

Oh yes, I did install a nice digital depth finder in the boat and it told me that I was in 1.8 ft of water, right before I hit a "submerged obstruction" and did a little bodywork to the prop (remember my lower has no skeg, bummer). Bent it a bit, but we still had fun. Good thing I had another prop. Learned how to change that quick. That is quite an easy task to complete.

Anyway, I can't ask for much more as I have $3300 into a boat with new interior and is mechanically reliable, and that even includes the purchase price of the boat!

Thanks to everyone on here for all the help with things. This project has been an "up and down" experience, but was worth it when I got out on the water and was doing 38 mph.

Just thought I would share my adventure. Will post pics sometime when the neighbor sends them to me!

Happy Boating....

That sounds great.

I really like the restored older fiberglass boats ... very nostalgic.

Our 4th boat was a 71 Glastron that I literally towed out of a junk yard. We stripped everything out and went to town on it. In the end, had a nice "like new" boat that cost us about $1000 overall, sold it after two years, for $2100.

I have about 3500 into it, been out on the big lake 3 times and she has performed like a champ. She will do about 38 mph, not bad for 23 yrs old. And doesn't burn a drop of oil.
