Post subject: | Volvo OSI Drives |
Someone at my marina was told by a Volvo rep that Volvo was doing away with the OSI (ocean Series) composite drives, but he did not ask why. looking at the Fourwinns site for the 09's I dont see the OSI drive being listed as an option (checked the 318 and 338). Does anyone know if Volvo is really stopping production of the OSI and if so why? |

I don't know for sure if they are stopping production, but I did read of reports on the internet on the hull truth and iboats, that there were problems with the bellows leaking and subsequent corrosion damage to the driveshaft, ujoints and gimble. I'd expect Volvo to take care of these issues rather than give up on the concept. As a side issue, I also have heard of some problems with the new style drives, in that some reported loud gear noise and failed trim pumps. Again, this could be a first year teething problem issue, that I'd expect them to work out. With respect to the OSi, since Merc now has the Seacore, their salt water drive, I doubt that Volvo would give up that market to them, instead of working out the issues. |
