If the engine/drive are a 1995 then it is actually the same as a Volvo SX. Given what work was done and what you are reporting, I'd be suspicious that either the gimble bearing was not seated all the way, damaged during installation or the alignment is still off. It could be the u-joints too but when you turn from side to side or tilt the drive up or down the gimble bearing 'gimbles'. The fact that you had to force the drive on the last bit suggests that either that gimble was not seated all the way or the alignment is still off. On my old style Cobra where the transom mount and driveshaft are essentially the same as yours, the drive goes all the way on easily. No forcing, etc.
